Polish violinist, the winner of the 13th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań in 2006. She has also received Passport of the Polityka weekly (an annual cultural award), four Fryderyk Awards (the most important music award in Poland), and the London Music Masters Award.

Agata is the principal violin of the renowned Polish string quartet, the Karol Szymanowski Quartet. During her artistic career she has performed with Christian Zimmermann, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Marta Argerich, Maxim Vengerov, and with conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Sir Neville Marriner, and Andrzej Boreyko. She has recorded for Deutsche Gramophone, Sony and Decca. Currently, she uses a violin made by Niccolo Galliano in 1755, which is generously lent by Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Biography

Born in 1985 in Gdańsk, Poland, into a musical family, Agata Szymczewska began violin studies at age six in her hometown of Koszalin. She graduated from the Poznań Music Academy under Professor Bartosz Bryła and continued her training with Professor Krzysztof Węgrzyn at the Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media (since 2004).

Career Highlights

  • 2006: Won 1st Prize at the 13th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition (Poznań), a milestone that launched her international career.
  • 2005: Awarded the Lotos Classic Prize at the Gdańsk International Violin Competition.
  • Other awards: Laureate at the A. Yampolsky International Violin Competition (Moscow, 2006) and Calgary Concerto Competition (Canada, 2003).

Performance Career

Agata has performed across Europe, Israel, Russia, Canada, China (including a 2012 recital at Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall), and Japan with orchestras such as:
